The Inspiration

Bees and other pollinators are an essential part of our ecosystem. We need them and they need us! When I was a little girl, I was fascinated with insects, especially the bumble bee! I would often seek them out and attempt to befriend them. I wasn’t always successful but I would always try! When I was in college I studied nutrition which eventually led me to become interested in permaculture and organic farming.

Every spring and summer I tend to a little backyard garden. I love watching the bees and other pollinators stop by to help out my plants. It's also great knowing my little garden supports their needs too! With spring just around the corner, garden planting is on my mind! If you enjoy gardening, what types of plants are you looking forward to growing in 2025? I hope to grow some heirloom tomatoes, carrots, kale, chard, snap peas, and a few different varieties of flowers!

The colors and vibe of this club will be bright, bold, and joyful!

Why Does it Matter?

According to the Bee Conservancy,

"Land development, pesticide use, and the installation of invasive and genetically modified plants — are destroying essential food, shelter, and nesting sites for bees.

As native vegetation is replaced by lawns, roadways, non-native gardens, and industrially managed crops, much of the natural world in the U.S. has become unnatural, according to Doug Tallamy, author and professor of Entomology and Wildlife Conservation at the University of Delaware.

This negatively impacts the countless species who have evolved to rely on regional ecosystems. A safe habitat provides bees with the resources they need to survive, including abundant pollen and nectar sources, nesting sites, and shelter. Native plants are particularly important, as many native bee species have coevolved to feed exclusively on locally.”

We can help by creating safe habitats for bees (and other pollinators like butterflies) that encourage bees to live their best lives. One way we can take an active role in the well-being of our local pollinators is by planting botanicals that they love!
